Shoemaking is an old and beautiful trade, which unfortunately is becoming rare as old artisans retire often without training the next generation of shoemakers. However, Federico Badia is an exception. Young and self-motivated, he is passionate about pairing tradition and innovation together in order to create the highest quality shoe possible. He designs, cuts, sews, and sculpts, each pair of bespoke shoes entirely by hand in his Bottega (workshop) in Orvieto, Italy.
Federico Badia dedicates his energy to the art of traditional, artisan shoemaking, which allows him to create a unique, luxury product. For this reason, each pair of bespoke shoes is handmade personally by Federico. First, he selects materials, then calculates and draws the models, cuts, lasts, stitches, and finally, polishes every shoe. This dedication to quality and detail means that each pair of bespoke shoes is truly tailored for the individual client. Due to the time and attention that each pair of shoes requires, it generally takes about twelve months from initial order date for the completion of the client’s first pair of bespoke shoes.
With bespoke, anything is possible.
To guarantee complete comfort and satisfaction, Federico only makes bespoke shoes (su misura). This requires either a visit to his shop in Orvieto to have measurements taken, or a personal consultation about taking measurements remotely. Later, after these initial measurements are taken, a custom shoe last is built specifically for each client and kept by Federico at the shop. First, the client receives a trial shoe (scarpa di prova), which allows the client an option of final alterations. After fit and satisfaction are guaranteed, the client receives the completed shoes. No return or trial visit is necessary to reorder since the shoes can be shipped worldwide.

Federico Badia uses only top quality, full-grain Italian tanned shoe leathers. As a result, his shoes, when properly cared for, can truly last for a lifetime. Federico offers a variety of different shoe models including Oxfords, Derbys, Loafers, or Monks. In addition, he also enjoys designing new styles specifically for clients as well. For each pair of shoes, the client selects the perfect color and texture from a variety of leather. Pricing is from €3000 (plus IVA for clients within the EU). All shoes are goodyear welted by hand to guarantee maximum strength and flexibility.
