Winemaking

The Borgo di Castellunchio Winery is dedicated to using sustainable, organic growing and winemaking practices to produce quality wines that showcase the natural diversity and beauty of Orvieto’s local grapes. By staying closely connected to the land and grapes, we seek to produce a limited number of unique wines that shares the beauty of our home and heritage with others.

Family beginnings

Some of Federico’s fondest childhood memories involve spending time with his grandparents in the northern Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Through working and learning with his grandfather, Federico first developed an interest in winemaking as he helped his grandfather to care for, harvest, and make wine for the family. This tradition is something that Federico wants to pass on to his son, Sebastian, who is already enamored with agriculture and the outdoors.

I knew, always, that I would be a worker in the vineyard,as are all men and women living at the same time, whether they are aware of it or not.” –Czeslaw Milosz, from “Late Ripeness.” Translated by the author…

Unfortunately, the place had fallen into decay and certain aspects (such as the dirt floor) clearly needed…
